7 element Televonverters

Note that I have posted this question also in the lens forum, but I noticed last night on your site that you have Bower and Vivitar 4 and 7 element teleconverters for pentax cameras.

the Bower ones are specifically marked PZ, implying they have the contacts for the power zoom lenses. Is this correct for both the bower and vivitar units? Do you know if they are made by Samyang? and How well will these TC's assuming they have the contacts of the KAF2 mount, function with lenses using HSM? the specific questions are, do the TC's modify the aperture and focal length to correct for the addition of the teleconverter or just feed lens data through to the camera?

Hello,

We tested all teleconverters from Bower and Vivitar on a Pentax K-7 Digital SLR Camera using a SMCP-DA 200mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM Lens. On camera the lens performed flawlessly and is a very nice lens. The lens would not auto focus with any of the converters mounted. Additionally, the camera displayed an f2.8 fstop when any of the converters were mounted. It would seem the body was able to see the lens by communicating with it through the converters but not understand a converter was attached. We had no Power Zoom body or lens available to test, but I would guess this would also not work.

when you say the lens would not AF, was it attempting to focus (i.e. hunt), or did it simply do nothing. Also did you try with both 1.4x and 2x tcs

Hello,

It would not focus at all. No automation or attempt.
