SLIK 700DX but lighter

One Sunday very soon daughter and I will be coming into B&H for her to try out a tripod for herself. She mainly uses one for self-portraits and model shoots, she currently drags my 700DX around for the purpose. When she threatened to take my 700DX to college, I figured I'd entice her: something similar but lighter. She's going for it.

She likes the look of the new 340DX, and the Giottos VT-809. These two about define our price range, she likes the pan/tilt heads better than balls... a nice working height and a solid construction, not too much weight as this will be a portable 'studio' usage rather than hiking.

She's not enthused with my other SLIK, a Sprint Pro.

Oh, she uses a white K-x with kit lens (from B&H last December), and a Spotmatic.

Apart from the SLIK DX line and maybe some of the Giottos, what else should we keep an eye out for?

(We may come to the store this Sunday)

Hello,

This weekend was a cooker, although Sunday wasn't as bad as Saturday. Of the 2 tripods you mentioned, the Slik Pro 340DX Tripod would be the sturdier. I've had good luck with a earlier version of this tripod;

The Manfrotto 7301YB Tripod is a compact and lightweight tripod primarily designed for compact digital point and shoot cameras or lighter SLR cameras with lenses up to a moderate telephoto. It has 26mm maximum upper diameter leg segments and a 3-way head with separate pan/tilt locks and a quick release plate.

The 7301YB's small head allows smooth motion with panning for a variety of light-duty video cameras but can also achieve any position necessary for a still camera. It weighs just ~3.7 pounds and at 20" collapsed can be carried almost anywhere, including inside the cabin of nearly all commercial aircraft.

We stopped by on Sunday, and daughter ended up with a SLIK 330DX - she prefers three sections rather than 4 and the slight extra height of the 330 over the 340. She was tempted by one of the Cullmann Magnesit pods, they have some nice features, but in the end thought the SLIK may be more durable.

She also bought 4 rolls of BW400CN
