New Metz flashes?

Metz has just announced the mecablitz 50 AF-1 and 58 AF-2. Any idea when the Pentax versions will be in stock? Thanks!

Hello,

Spoke to our Bogen/Manfrotto rep and they do not expect to take delivery of the new flashes until after Photokina. They could not give me a time frame at this time. We of course wil post any information we know on our web site as soon as we know anything.

Same question, but for the more-recently-announced 24 AF-1, 36 AF-5, and 44 AF-1 models.

Ooh, yay, particularly about the 24: looks like they're making the teeny little thing with focus illuminator I've been wanting all this time.

FYI, I did a Google search for Metz 50 AF-1 and found a link to a Canadian e-tailer that listed the estimated release date as 10/29. Waiting another month will be painful; I'm anxious to move to the next step with my K20D, but I cannot stomach buying a soon-to-be-discontinued model. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later.

Hope this helps...looking forward to hearing an update from BH soon.

Are you referring to Vistek or some one else? Vistek has had that date on their site for a month or so now, so I am curious if another retailer has corroborated that date.

Hi Bob,

Yep, it was Vistek. Sorry, I didn't realize they've had this date for a month now. I'm not familiar with them, but they are the only ones I've seen with a date.

Best,
Josh

I also noticed a website down under, with it listed for $585 AUD available in late October.

What 50 AF-1?

Called Vistek today asking about the 50 AF-1 they said no luck, they don't stock items for Pentax. But it is listed on their web page for sale. Called B&H they answered alot quicker than Vistek but, no luck couldn't say when or if. Seems like Metz is pulling our leg.
I need a good flash for the up coming holidays was hoping the new Metz models would be available. Also, just wishful thinking that maybe Pentax would have introduced a new one at the past Photokina. Hate to settle for the older models, just might.

I don't think so. It appears to be available in Germany (from amazon.de at least, with a 3-4 day delay either short initial supply or else it's not really there yet). But their US distribution channel, Manfrotto (formerly Bogen) Distributing, isn't, well, amazing. The mecablitz 36 AF-1 took months to show up, and then it was only Canon/Nikon, and then a few months later, Pentax. I wouldn't be shocked to see the same pattern here.

(Manfrotto also appears to set the US prices quite high, although I'm not sure how much of that is under their control. In Europe, the Metz flashes are considerably cheaper than the roughly-comparable Pentax models, but here, they're about the same or a bit higher.)

I talked to the guys i linked too in Australia, Canon & Nikon mounts are available as of today (in stock) and the Pentax, Olympus and Sony mounts are due in stock in about two weeks.

I will of course try to order again then.
