Pentax shipping DA 17-70mm without a soft lens case?

I received my new Pentax DA 17-70mm lens today from B&H and was unpleasantly surprised to find no soft lens case included with the lens. I had this lens once before and it definitely came with one of Pentax's soft lens cases. I checked the Adorama site and they mention the lens as coming with the case as well. What's the story? The box I received looked a little worse for wear. Is it possible that I was sent someone else's return, or has Pentax officially decided to no longer supply the soft lens case with this lens?

In looking at the lenses on the home site, about 1/2 do not sell with soft cases. This includes the DA 17-70. It does not seem to follow any rhyme or reason: Some pancake lenses have cases, some not, some zooms have cases, some not. A $500 lens has a case, but a $1200 does not.

Hi, I guarantee the DA 17-70mm never include soft case.

The DA zooms shipped with soft case is 10-17mm, 16-50mm, 50-135mm, 55-300mm and 60-250mm.

The 16-45mm, 17-70mm 18-55mm, 50-200mm and 12-24mm come without any case.

Hello,

I E-mailed our Store Manager who will call a lens up from inventory and check. As soon as I know anything, I will post it.

Hello,

Our Store Manager confirmed the lens does not come in a case. It is wrapped in bubble wrap.

The "what's in the box" section does not reference a lens hod.
Mine came with a lens hood. It didn't come with a pouch which I thought was odd given its price point.

I suggest folks take a look at the KEH website under Pentax digital zoom lenses. Confirmed my reality. They offer a used DA 17-70mm with caps, hood and case. I suspect what has happened is that Pentax has decided to discontinue the 17-70. They (Pentax webstore) are no longer showing the associated soft lens case S90-140 in their lens accessories section. I think they aren't including them because they ran out of them and no point in making more if you are going to discontinue the lens they sold with.

Pentax ran out of the pouches a long time ago then because I got my lens about 5 months ago.

Or someone sold their DA17-70 to KEH and sent it in with a S90-140 case that they were using with the lens. FWIW, my DA17-70 did not come with a soft case.

The info here also suggests that the 17-70 did not come with a case, but that the S90-140 is the proper fitting case for the lens.

The proper case for DA 17-70mm is S80-140, which is impossible to find. The S90-140 (with DA* 16-50mm) is also work, but it is a little bit larger.
