Is Hoya Corporation now producing official Pentax K10D batteries?

I ordered a Pentax battery for my K10D, wanting the official item (having learned my lessons about cheaper alternatives). I received a battery made by Hoya Corporation, with no Pentax name on it, and not in a sealed box. B&H Customer Service says this is an official Pentax battery. I have no reason to doubt them, but I thought a public reply here might be useful for other shoppers.

Nearly every battery is made by one of a few third-party makers, with a different name on it.

Sanyo was the worlds largest producer of primary and consumer batteries (40% market share) and also produces the Eneloop battery. Having been aquired by the Panasonic corperation, already one of the worlds three largest battery producers. The Hoya offerings are probably made by Panny or one of it's subsideries, or possibly Sony; the market leader for bespoke production Li-ion batteries with a 53% market share (batteries)in electronic consumer items.

As a side note, the brand Sanyo will cease to exist in most market places by April 2012, except where their brand name is synonymous with a product (cameras???)

Hello,

I am sorry, but manufacturers do not tell us if or when they subcontract out manufacturing products. Their branding means they will stand behind the item and provide a warranty.

At one time the retail boxed FA31 cap I purchased came unfinished. How that could happen I don't know, but one thing for certain - THAT's QC!!

BTW, I still have a brand new sealed MIJ Minolta NP-400 battery in my fridge. Let me know if you are interested.

Wow that's funny (if a bit sad). Honestly I'd keep that as it's probably going to be a collector's item. Sort of like how currency from the US Mint with flaws is worth much much more than the standard thing.

The idea did come across my mind.
