K5 Pentax Extended Warranty on Back Order?

Hi Chuck,

I ordered a K5 from B&H yesterday and received a shipping notice today. I had also ordered the Pentax 2 yr extended warranty for $19.99. The update I received today indicated that the warranty is on back order?? Is Pentax having a hard time keeping up with the demand or are they sorry they offered it in the first place and not offering it any more? How long will it be before it is in stock again (really I know its only a brochure because I bought it when I bought my K7 last year)? Is there a window of time, since date of purchase of my K5, after which I cannot purchase it, if it remains on back order? Please advise.

Hello,

A warranty cannot really be back ordered. There is paperwork that is shipped and we are more than likely out of that. Your B&H receipt will cover you in the event you need to contact Pentax for servicing until you receive your documentation. We have no shipping time frame from Pentax.

Chuck, If I have a K-5 from Japan, but live in America, can I still purchase this warranty?

Hello,

According to our Pentax Rep, yes but it needs to be purchased within 90 days for the original purchase.

Chuck, is there any way I can "pre-order" a warranty just to be sure? Or do you know if you'll be getting more warranty sheets in the next month or so?

I'm not sure that Chuck can answer that unless someone at Pentax can advise him, but I will say that it was back ordered when I bought one and it only took a couple weeks to get it in and have it shipped to me.

Well the website won't let me buy one since it's "backordered". My only option is to be notified when it's in stock.

I been waiting for weeks, I got a notice by email but wasn't home when it came in and by the time I went to the web site it was sold out again.

Called B&H yesterday to order the K-r. I wanted the 2 year extended warranty, but I knew they were on backorder.
Rob (salesperson) convinced me to go ahead and pay for the warrantly, and the paperwork will be shipped to me once they have it in stock. He indicated it would take a week or so.
I hope Rob was right!

You can purchase an Extended Warranty even if it is out of stock from us with no worries. Your receipt will cover you until the paper work arrives. Our web site is set up to not allow customers to purchase an item which is Out of Stock, but if you call or E-mail us we can take your order.
