If I get the extended warranty on the 15th of this month

I purchased my K-R on 2-08-2011 so if I purchase the two year extended warranty on the 15th of this month is that within in the 90 day purchase time frame. I won't get paid until the 15th and won't have the extra monies for it until then so if it is out of the 90 day time frame I suppose I am just out of luck.

Thanks,
Jeffery

This is the conversation I had with Pentax about their extended warranty, and in particular, the one sold at B&H at the time (a couple months ago). My camera was purchased Oct 30.

Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
You have been connected to Michael C.
Michael C: Thank you for contacting Pentax chat support Jeff , how may I help you?
Jeff Siladi: I just have a simple question about an Extended warranty B&H Photo is selling..
Michael C: sure
Jeff Siladi: My K5 was recently replaced under warranty for the stains on the sensor.
Jeff Siladi: My understanding is, Warranty starts as of replacement date?
Jeff Siladi: In other words, Starts over. Original date of purchase end of october.
Michael C: the Pentax warranty is from the date of purchase, not the replacement date
Michael C: so if it is the Pentax extended warranty, it will not change at all
Jeff Siladi: That clears that up. Can I buy and use the Extended warranty from B&H?
Michael C: it is simply from the date of purchase
Michael C: absolutely
Michael C: I believe they offer the Pentax extended warranty and they might also have there own offerings as well
Jeff Siladi: So if I buy it now, the remaining time on Extended warranty would be 2 years 8 months
Michael C: there is a time limit to purchasing the extended warranty from the date of purchase
Michael C: let me verify this for you, one moment please
Jeff Siladi: Actual delviery date of the camera was Nov 4 2010
Michael C: you should still be able to purchase it, yes sir
Jeff Siladi: For curiosity sake, what is the time limit to purchase an extended warranty?
Michael C: we ask that it be purchased within 90 days of the original purchase date
Michael C: technically, it is ok if it purchased within the first year
Jeff Siladi: Very good as I'm beyond the 90 days no matter how I slice it. Should be good?
Michael C: yes sir, you are all good
Jeff Siladi: Thank you very much for your time.
Michael C: You're welcome Jeff

Have your own conversation with them if need be. I don't think B&H has any control over when Pentax Extended warranties can be purchased. They've only made them available at a good price.

When I bought my K-5, there were no Pentax 2 year extended warranty cards to be had. When they arrived, I bought one less than a month after the K-5 purchase. After getting it, I read on the card that the warranty had to be purchased at the same time as the camera. Is mine valid or not? Thanks, Dave

Hello,

Pentax would be the one to ask since they would be providing the coverage.

Okay well now Dave if you find out the answer to this question do let me know before I go and spend monies on something that will not be honored by Pentax.

It is now on back order

I went to purchase the warranty and it appears that it is on back order. I will head over to Pentax website to find out about the warranty and if it is indeed valid and will be covered by them should something happen with the camera functions.

I asked this question of Pentax myself and the answer was buy it within 90 days. In practice, I don't know how it matters because you are supposed to send in the warranty card and the original sales receipt for the camera, so I don't know how they'd ever know about the timing of the purchase.

When you read the actual card, It says that the receipt should contain both camera and warranty purchase. I purchased mine within a month when the cards became available again so I guess you send in the card plus both receipts. Thanks for the update. Dave
