I pre-orded K5 IIs from BH on Oct 17. Got it Oct 31. Credit Card Charged on Oct 26. Is it still under 30 days return?

If you got it on Oct 31, I'd say it's still under 30-day return. I'm in a similar situation and have asked B&H for a $250 refund.

Black Friday happens every year. Take note, it will happen again. Hold off on major purchases if you can.

Aside from purchasing 2 weeks prior to black Friday, I'd add that it's actually up to the vendors to offer price protection and not the manufacturer.
That being said, most large sales outlets offer price protection, though I must admit... I am rather surprised that B&H doesn't do this myself.

At any rate, I'd first caution against buying from stores that don't offer price protection, and I'd second that with a note that it's best to wait until the passing of major sales events before making your purchase. - live and learn they say.

So if you bought a Nikon FF camera shortly before Black Friday, and saw that the price dropped $250 during the sale, you would sell alll your Nikon stuff and move to Canon?

Looking around some of the sales, Nikon, Canon and lots of others dropped their prices for BF. And anyway, it was B&H who made the pricing decisions for their sale. Not every US retailer did the same. Why pick on Pentax.

I'm surprised if B&H actually doesn't do it. Adorama does it - price protection service, that is.

Has there ever been a situation where early adopters are not inconvenienced in some way? Not just talking about cameras here, but being an early adopter is an accepted risk in any situation. Either a monetary risk where early adopters pay more or maybe some problem with early batches that is fixed in newer ones.

You didn't lose any money, you had the camera weeks before anyone who bought one on this sale did, you paid for that privilege.

I'd be more upset that the Nikon and Canon only dropped a measly 5%, just think how much money you could have saved if they discounted it 20% so you could switch systems cheaper. Then when the price of the one you bought dropped again, you could get upset and switch again when the other one drops at the same time.

You seriously need to think about more than money, if you're happy with the camera then it really shouldn't matter what you paid, you got what you paid for. Go out and take pictures and quit thinking about "what might have been".

I'm not seeing this as Pentax's issue, but rather as the buyers.

Its almost a universal rule that just about ANY expensive piece of electronics will drop in price within 6 months (usually less) of release. Factor in a holiday sale and the odds are even greater.

The buyer has a fairly simple option with B&H: Return the previously purchased camera, which is still within the 30-day return period, and buy another one at the sale price.

If I don't hear back from B&H customer service about a price adjustment in about another hour, I will probably do just that. I emailed them last night after seeing the price change and haven't received anything other than an autoreply.

By the way, the camera is now listed as "new item available for pre-order" with the price still at $1049 as of this evening. Perhaps a lot of people bought one.
