I purchased a DA* 16-50 from B&H on Black Friday. I have reason to believe it was manufactured before Pentax/Ricoh made a significant engineering design fix to the SDM focusing motor. I'm open to other suggestions from you, but I'll propose coming into the store for a swap with a more recently manufactured sample. Apparently the only way to identify the approximate age of a 16-50 is by the serial number , and maybe some "Ricoh" paperwork or a label on the box. Can you find your highest-numbered 16-50 serial number, reserve it for me, and let me know what the serial number is so I can research whether it's newly manufactured?

Firstly. I am terribly sorry for the delay in responding to your post, the E-mail alerts do not appear to be working correctly. According to what I've read: "all lenses produced in 2012 or later should no longer fail."

While I am unable to look up the manufacture date for your particular lens, I doubt very much we've had inventory sitting here since 2012, the lens just sell too quickly. Pentax could more than likely confirm whether or not you lens has the updated SDM focus motor.
