Some of the developer chemistry is cannot be ordered online?

While I can understand shipping restrictions for corrosive materials, why is it that some developer chemicals (usually the ones I want to buy) are not available to order online?

Hello;

As a former darkroom printer (until my darkroom became a playroom for my young son) I understand your frustration. The restrictions in shipping chemicals especially white powdery substances has been in effect since 9/11. The paper work required for the shipment of chemicals is not something our warehouse can accommodate and I apologize for the inconvenience.

For years, I used Photographers Formulary and they have the ability to process the necessary paper work for the shipment of photographic chemicals.

I first began purchasing from them when I first started to develop my prints in Amidol.

I hope this helps.

Chuck

I don't print as we don't have room in our 932 sqft farmhouse, but I do my negatives by loading them into a Paterson daylight cannister in a darkened bathroom then heading to the kitchen for the chemistry. The wife and I would love to be able to do prints but I'm afraid we'll have to wait for the double trailer to be purchased. It's rural Alabama so gotta fit the idiom.

I can get most of my B&W chems at this wonderful store in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, called Southerlands Photo, or order powder D-76. It's getting the C-41 chems that are the trouble right now. I generally have good shipping times with B&H and have ordered film and such.

I am sorry for your inconvenience. Restrictions on air transport of many chemicals, corrosive or otherwise, began in the aftermath of the tragic ValuJet Flight 592 crash on May 11, 1996. Federal IACA rules and those imposed by the FAA restrict air shipping, a situation we regret but over which we have little or no control.

I understand. Just more motivation to hop the Amtrak Crescent up to NYC and visit, right?

Just gotta pay off the credit card first.
