More Rodinal, fast develop time

So I've been doing mostly 50' stand with this developer at 1:100. I went to the other end of the spectrum last night. Used 1:25. Agitated continuously for 30 seconds, then very briefly, for maybe 2 seconds, every 30 seconds thereafter, for a total time of 5 minutes. Film is Neopan 400. To be honest, I thought I might see more of a difference between this method and the 50 minute stand. The differences were pretty subtle to my (admittedly untrained) eye. The most obvious was a bit more contrast. Beyond that, the grain was pretty similar, though maybe a little more pronounced in the highlights. There is a Flickr gallery of 10 shots from the roll, and I'll put two in the thread:

Much better contrast, to my eye at least!

Thanks, Steve. Since I'm not seeing a major difference in the grain, perhaps I will default to this 5-minute process for a while, and use the stand in cases of really high contrast scenes.

These look very good indeed. Based on a vintage article, you might want to try 1:50 or 1:75 as a happy medium

1:50 is my most used dilution. (1:40 for the older R09 formulation).

I am with Gene and Jussi. 1:50 will give you a more reasonable development time. I have found that when times dip under about 6 minutes it is much more difficult to control other factors such as agitation and temperature variation.
