Is fasinating how MF and scanning of those images cascade in terms of every
shot being a learning experience for myself.Like those yashica's,wanted to
pick up Mat 'g',coundnt find nice one, grabbed mamiya for little more.
Have reserved a place on rental list here to shoot a roll in a pentax 645
no doubt, looking foward to huge amount of fun.

a couple shot&ran from thursday,portra 160nc with 80mm lens set.

1-at F11,even there,DOF very thin at 9 inches,was windy,some motion blur too

2-seems unique to plastic reel, end of roll has tendency to curl over on itself
ran with little more than 150ml of solution, recommened minimum for
tank is 240 ml,both factors together produced that, wont do that anymore
only frame were it appears.

scanned with V500,pretty much in the raw, little PP in elements 9

Bill, are those 2 V500 images using the Epson default curves?

I am "getting started" with the first roll of UltraMax 400 on the V600
While I got reasonably good results first up with b&w, color is not so easy.
Fortunately I shot a color card at the start of the roll and shot the card with the ist ds too.
The default color curves in the Epson Win scan app are way off.

So I scanned directly and I am starting to adjust the 4 curves in Gimp to balance the white and grey levels.
It looks like the curves are not gamma curves and a spline of piecewise is necessary.

The other issue is that the image sharpness is not as good on the V600 color scans while it is quite good on the b&w scans.
And if the curves are not grey balanced, that makes the unsharpness worse.

This roll was developed for $2.50 in the deserted booth at the local supermarket and I have no way of knowing if it is developed properly, maybe I will do another roll developed elsewhere before I fiddle with the images on this roll too much.

Here is the ist awb camera jpg of the color card which is very close on the Eizo to the real card in the sun

Here is my film progress, showing I have quite a way to go yet.

Most would say "why bother" and my buddy, who used to process color paper, already said it.

Hi Wombat, guess you could say at default curves, when software is opened,
all settings are at mid-point,used grain reduction reduction.Beyond that
didnt do too much regarding PP.When I put them up there, was trying to give
OP somewhat an ideal just how thin DOF with 120 and his yashica,is.In second pic
can see brite streak in center with dark banding on sides is result of film curling
in on itself when loaded on plastic reel and me using close to half the recommended
volume of developer when I processed. In case of second pic,if I would of
gave reel a few more twist, probably would of 'urged' roll further into reel
and no staining would of occured. More of an effort to display some
"aw shucks" you might say, save Doug a few frames and a little frustation.

Point you make about grey card is good one, really where I need swift kick
in the rear end.Have 8 x 10 inch, 18% that I cut into 4 pieces and taped back
of so it folds accordian style and fits in bag fine, with small footprint.
Had it with me,did not use it,paid the price for not shooting a frame with it.
And it shows, hopefuly that will be of help to others too.

Dug my jobo out of attic after 15 year hiatus because of discontent of
processing quality by mini-labs here.Virtually no quality control is my
general perception of those outfits.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I developed my first of may rolls of 120 film last night and while not of my shots were anything to crow about, I am very happy with the results and very excited about shooting and developing film!!!

Here's one of my shots:

Love the look of film and medium format!

Doug
