300dpi is way off the mark for scanning 35mm film. The negative is approx 1" x 1.5", 300dpi is the setting for a good quality print so you will be able to make a 1" x 1.5" print from your scan... Even printing at 150dpi that will only be a 2" x 3" print!

Another way of looking at it is that the images would be fine for modest-size display (450x300 px) on-screen or to share for e-mail, but that would be it.

Já uso a mais de 1 ano o Epson V500 Photo, Excelente, qualidade de até 6400 DPI óptico, utilizo para restauração de fotos antigas e ele dá um show á parte o Software Muito fácil de usar tudo em português, para quem não sabe inglês ajuda demais, o software permite ainda ser configurado em três niveis, do mais simples ao mais exigente profissional que desejar controlar cada passo do Scaneamento, já o hp tem até uma boa resolução, mas não aguenta Scannear, em qualidade máxima, quando não trava o computador, trava o próprio scanner forçando a desliga-lo.

Toda Linha Epson, são muito bons,mas os scanners são profissionais mesmo, só podiam ser lançados no brasil
Encontrei esta loja no Brasil com alguns modelos da epson por ótimos preços, isto é raro no Brasil.

I picked up an Ion film scanner for less than $40. While I wouldn't use it for its final product, it works great for cataloging my old negatives.
There's definitely enough to make decisions as to whether to do more with the frame.
