Rescue old B&W and Color 6 x 9 negatives

I have come across some very very old 6 x 9 negatives, both B&W and Color.

The newest of these would be 60 years old, the oldest, I am afraid to guess.

Has any one had any luck scanning these with a flatbed scanner? I have a canon 3200F that can do a native 1200DPI, although I would think 600 is more than enough for the task at hand.

I have played a little, but the real issue I am having seems to be with the color negatives and a tendancy for the blacks to have faded to blue.

Any suggestions?

scan them, adjust the um... cyan? channel... anyway that's how I've attempted this.

However, here is something I'd never have thought of:
How to fix old photos that have color shifted

the problem I am having is that with the flat bed scanner, it seems that the negatives are really coming out black, I think there is an issue here with scanning by reflective light, something that shoul dbe scanned by backlighting.

Thoughts?

You have to have backlighting for negatives. If you don't it's not really going to be satisfactory.

I realized this, and found the 35mm carrier

the scanner has a backlight built into the hood, but I think it is really only set for 35mm. I need to look into a good backlight fixture.

I am thinking about building a difused light with low voltage halogen bulbs
