I've been using my Epson V500 running Vuescan on Debian. I had to do the same searching that tlong423 did. A quick Google search and visit to a couple of forums and I was set and it has worked flawlessly since.

Can the Epson V600 scan 35mm slides as well?

Essentially yes -- but they would have to be unmounted as the carrier is for film strips.

Wow, that stinks, that's one more reason to keep my V500. It's carrier allows you to scan mounted slides.

Edit: I just had a thought, can the V500 negative/slide holders be used on the V600? If so that could be an option.

The V600 ships with a slide carrier...at least it did when this review was written...

Epson V600 Photo Review
The 35mm holder does double duty for both slides and negative strips.

You're right, If the review is showing the correct photo's the transparency holders for the V600 are identical to the V500 holders. So mounted slides shouldn't be a problem.
