Pentax Slide copier on M43 with image stacking

https://www.box.com/s/d7f657856454365baa0d
This is a Pentax Slide Copier A with the Pentax Bellows M containing an M43 camera and a Rogonar-S 1:2.8 50mm.
This arrangement, with the short M43 register, allows the lens to be mounted in its correct direction and to project an image from 35mm camera negs onto the M43 that fits the sensor. The various adaptors were home made on the lathe, and I purchased some threading tools from UK to allow machining of the Leica M39 Whitworth thread mount. The bw negs are mounted in Gepe metal mounts.

To further improve the fidelity across the plane, I am trying stacking, backing off the focus a bit then take six shots going through focus.

The following commands on a linux machine handle the stacking:

cd ~/Pictures/BWSlidecopy
align_image_stack -m -a p80210??.jpg
enfuse -o Menlo_stacked.tif --wExposure=0 --wSaturation=0 --wContrast=1 --HardMask p8021023.jpg00??.tif

This is a low light shot taken in Edison's lab at Dearborn with a Ricoh KR-5 and a Rikenon P Zoom 1:3.4~4.5 35~70mm.
The above commands produced a 23MB Tiff that I reduced to 1.7MB:

I think the fidelity of this method is quite a bit better than the flat bed scanner approach I tried last year.
The grain of the HP5 at iso 560 is clearly showing up in the mid tones of this shot at larger image sizes on the monitor - and on other shots on this roll maybe I have a developing problem, or else its just the first time I can see the grain.
