First roll of film...

Hi all.
I developed my first roll of film since I had a photo class at scool thirty years ago. I had a blast!

The results are OK-ish for a first try, imho. But I would like some hints on improvements, if you don't mind.
I'm not happy with the highlights in the positive (see below). Did I overexpose and the highlights are blown or did I develop too long?
I used:
Spotmatic F
SMC Takumar 55/1.8
f/8, 1/60

HP5
HCD-2, 1:11, 22°C, 6:30, 3 agitations during the first 10 seconds, then three agitations after every 30 seconds. slaps on the bottom after agitations.
Spur Ultraxif N, 1:7, 5 minutes

I shot the negative with the 35ltd in a single shot, inverted in LR4 and did some cropping etc...

rgds,
Gerd.

I actually like this photo very much as it is. It radiates magic in a very authentic way, as if it is taken a long time ago at the dawn of photography.

Remember you don't have a matrix metering system like your digital. Your exposure looks to favor the shadows. It's hard to say not knowing how bright it was outside but for a bright, sunny day, f8 @ 1/60 for 400 film (no filter) is an exposure not favoring the sky. You can also use colored (yellow and orange) and polarize filters to help separate the sky and clouds. An orange will deepen your shadows if that is a concern.

Thanks all.

I had in mind to shoot for the shadows when shooting film. But I have to refine my technique somewhat, I suppose!

Rgds,
Gerd.
