Nitrile gloves would do the trick wouldn't they?

You sacrifice quite a bit of dexterity even with thin nitrile gloves.
Call me a wimp but this time around I plan to try low-odor fixer.

Yes, but you can also use Bamboo Tongs or similar to handle the wet paper and hardly tough the chemicals that much at all.
