Write down a price you think is reasonable. Double it.

Ricoh being a image processor company (Copier, fax ,etc) this make a lot of sense . They have a huge advantage because they already have all the technology
Well, there's not really any technology involved here. It's just a flange and a negative carrier on either side of a bellows unit.

I, like many others, have jerry-rigged a DSLR scanning setup with passable results. But I'm no MacGyver, and it's pretty rickety. So the prospect of a Pentax-specific setup is a (small) dream come true. I'm nervous about the price, as they're showing it with the new 645D...
Where is it shown with the 645D ...someone else mentioned seeing an image with the K3. The only image I have seen shows it with no camera ...obviously the duplicator has no optics of its own so you will need to mount a lens on the camera. Just wondering what lens and how it attaches.

can't wait to get my hands on one. I have the old slide copier and other various tools/scanners but they never really seem to capture the real deal. Hopefully this one can.

I would suspect that any decent macro lens would work. As noted above, this appears to be your basic old-school slide duplicator.

I thought I read it also is intended with negative duplication, meaning there must also be software included or a Firmware update to enable one to 'develop' the file in-camera.

I imagine it would most likely come bundled with software. Probably something similar to the iPhone app for that little iPhone-based 35mm film scanner. It seems like you'd get a better result from software vs a picture style in camera.

To need a lens is a bit of a downside... I'm not sure I could fit a 18-55 with a retro adapter on that thing and attach it properly. That combo should fill the frame nicely though, and the 18-55 is pretty good in combination with a retro adapter.

If that's all it is, I'll just use my Pentax M42 duplicator, thank you.

BTW, while the new 645D doesn't say Ricoh anywhere, does anyone else think that bulbous Pentax logo thing is ugly?

This Pentax film duplicator feels nearly as some sort of prelude to the proper digital full frame experience from Pentax. You take a photo on your film SLR, process it, slide into the duplicator, press the shutter - voila!

+1. At least they spelled it correctly.

While I'd love one of these for better "scans" of my negatives, I suspect this price guess will be all too accurate. I've been planning on building my own one of these for a while, I'll just need to get around to it.
