In theory you could use a macro lens to take several shots, each of only part of the negative, and then stitch them later on the computer. I believe that there are people who do this and it could yield really high resolution results limited only by the film and gear used to take the shot in the first place. In practice, unless you needed it to print
really big, this would be overkill.
