Lab Box

I have done color in the past. Temperature is a consideration, but not as complicated as you might think. I would take the pint bottles of chemistry (about 6 I think) and float/place them in a bath of water at the required temperature. Using a thermometer (accurate one), I would get the water coming out of the tap the proper temperature, or just a bit under, and then once the container was filled I would use a simple fish tank heater to bring the temp up to the proper level. This would take the most time. Don't over shoot. Bring the temp up slowly as it is faster to heat the bath than to get it to cool down. Once the chemistry is at the proper temp you can start processing the film. TO maintain temps through the process, it tool like The Lab can be place in a water bath also (just don't go too high!)

Did anyone received its Lab-Box? I haven’t ordered one but I remember the availabilily was supposed to be Sept/Oct.

The current projected date is May of 2018.

I currently use a changing bag and process my film traditionally. This weekend I have about 6 rolls of color to process in C-41. I may have to find an old one, or buy one of these to try out.

These were not popular when formerly in production and film was the only game in town.

It will likely be a fussy gadget in use and prone to failure. It is extremely overpriced.
And unless it can somehow interface to a smartphone it will have limited appeal even to hipsters with deep pockets.

Why wait for one of these when you can spend half the money for a perfectly good
daylight tank and reels - a system of proven design - and changing bag or tent?

I find the Lab-box interesting, as I just developed a roll of Superia 100 with my now old equipment. What I have works, it’s paid for, and replacement parts are quite inexpensive.

But the gear head in me thinks it could be interesting nonetheless.

It's true that regular tanks were more "popular", but a part of it is because they were 3-4 times less expensive than the "Rolls Royce" of daylight loading tanks.
Rondinax were manufactured from 1937 up until somewhen in the 80's, the clientele was sufficient enough to justify its production.

The Jobo 2400 daylight loading tanks were pretty interesting as well. 35mm only unfortunately.

And if I remember right, anything that said Jobo had a good price tag to go along with it.

The product has undergone some refinements that were unexpected, and I think the most current release date is August or Sept of 2018. I'm looking forward to getting one, as it's one piece of equipment that replaces and simplifies the developing process to a considerable extent, in my opinion.
