I will post a photo later. The slide holder came from bellows for screw mount lenses. When I stuck it on the front of the 35mm lens, it was too close and did not get the entire slide. I had about four old filters that I screwed the glass out of, and kept adding them on the front of the lens as spacers until the whole slide showed with some cardboard, which can be cropped later. You can shoot at low speeds because the lens it fixed to the camera.
Ooooh, I see. No picture needed now. I have a pretty clear understanding of what you're doing. So do they make empty spacers like that, or should I just buy some cheap filters and remove the glass? Also do you think a macro tube would work?

This gives a rough idea of the setup regarding distance and lens. The adapter for the slide holder came off an old rubber lens hood. Since my holder was attached to a bellows, I stabilized it with rubber bands. Crude, but it works.

If a spacer works out to the suitable distance, it may be OK. Looks as if I used two filters and an adapter. The important thing is to get the whole slide in. You can crop it later.
I suggest you set up a "User" selection just for the settings for scanning. For example, shake reduction must be off, since the subject is attached to the camera. That way, should you suddenly want to scan a slide or negative, the settings will be waiting for you in the User position. Point to a suitable light source and fire. I have used remote flash, but unless you intend doing several hundred, it takes too much time to get it set up.
