So, I finally decided to go for it, and got a Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA. I'm still experimenting with Silverfast, but I'll post some scans when I have them.

Original Lab Scans: Fujicolor C200 scans ? imgbb.com

PrimeFilmXA Scans: Fujifilm C200 scanned by PrimeFilmXA ? imgbb.com

After an initial learning curve, there are definitely color and dynamic range advantages to the PrimeFilmXA scanner.

What's the speed like? Does this scan 5-frame strips, or can it handle a whole 36-frame strip?

Speed varies greatly on what options you select, and what software you are using . I'm terrible at estimating time, and still tweaking a bit. Silverfast definitely gives the best results, after you figure out its weird interface. The CyberScan whatever software that came with it seems to make everything posterized....yech.

It has a feeder, and supposedly can scan an entire roll. I have yet to scan more than 5 frames at a time, but it seems to work pretty well. Per-frame alignment is generally pretty good.

I don't have any slides, so I haven't tested how well it works for that yet. It has a cut-out specifically for individual slides.

Do you have any updates on scan speeds for a whole roll? I'm still thinking of getting one, mostly for the convenience factor.

I haven't bothered timing the scanning, but a rough guess, for my settings, it takes ~90 minutes for a 36 exposure roll.

I'm scanning at ~5000DPI, to tiff files.
