Pixl-latr: A Multi-format Film Holder On Kickstarter

pixl-latr - helping you digitise 35mm, 120 & 4x5 film by Hamish Gill ? Kickstarter
Fits sizes between 35mm (even 35mm panaramic e.g. Xpan) to 4x5

Thought I'd share this for anyone interested, especially those that have various film sizes that they want to/plan to digitize and dont want to have multiple negative carriers.

...the pictures where they are 1. using a tablet for back lighting and 2. shooting with a smartphone at a random angle aren't exactly reassuring...

the tablet should be fine for backlighting since the diffuser glass should eliminate pixels. Shooting at an angle is problematic, but you can get away with it to an extent if you use a narrow aperture.

Should eliminate pixels... but at the cost of what light loss - from an already dim source?
Regarding the angle, you can get away with it from the point of view of DoF, not of distortion, and the ensuing quality loss when you have to stretch/straighten.
I stand by my initial impression: not the best presentation for a product aimed at a very specific use case.

Too much fiddling for the 120 film imo.

Well, I think the product is targeted to casual users, not people that already have copy stands and other copy equipment.

Well, it looks like they got about 5 times the minimum amount of money to fund it, so... good on them
