I can't believe you don't have an SA-21 with your 5000?

But yes, it is used for both V and 5000 just like the MA-21.

I do, but it has been a little flakey at times and I have been thinking a backup might be a good idea.

I bought it on ebay from a seller named nikon_coolscan for $80. I had to wait a bit for that price as they seemed to have been selling for more and this seller gurantees it works and with 6 month warranty.
