There is a listing for a 3 pack of Fujifilm Superia 400 Color at Adorama. It is listed as on backorder though. 36 exposures per roll. The price appears to be $13.99 and standard shipping is approx. $3.75.
Below is a shortcut to the listing.

Drat - I recently threw out some 10-year old 120 film when we moved house - could have made a killing!

For me the prices are a deterrent to using better offerings like Ektar but still cheap enough to shoot the cheap stuff like Kentmere and Arista. For me, what makes it still worthwhile is that I have been developing and scanning myself. If I had to pay $8 for a roll of film plus another $15-20 to ship it for development then I might not do it. Being so precious with every shot would take some of the fun out of it

"Must love black and white"

Twenty years ago you could shoot cheap widely available Kodak or Fuji C41 color negative film and bring it to any of a number of local minilabs.

Today the only economical way to shoot film is to buy BW film and chemicals from an online photographic retailer and process it yourself at home.

I used to do all my own printing and processing at home, but got to a point in 2010 to where I wasn’t shooting enough to exhaust the chemicals before they hit their shelf life.

I imagine many of us just don’t run through enough film to make it cost effective.

Only the developer has short shelf life once mixed.
OTOH HC110 and Rodinal concentrates have an extremely long shelf life.
Most users mix only what they need just prior to use.

When Amazon runs out of an item that it knows will be hard to "fulfill", they sometimes up the price (often, to unbelievable amounts) before removing a listing. The same thing applies to most goods or commodities and prices increase as the supply falls. We can blame the lack of film on a lot of things but the fact that many film manufactures don't make film anymore is the contributing factor to higher film prices. Be happy you can still get film (try buying VHS tape).

3 reasons prices have gone up the last year:

#1: Covid-19. Shipping issues/longer wait times to get materials (look at the shortage of GPU's for the last year).

#2. More people buying film, so they have to make more (aka Supply & demand). And since Kodak had to downsize when they went bankrupt years ago, they now have to "upsize" their manufacturing machines.

#3: Prices changes for materials that goes into making the film, and/or when a specific material gets banned by a country's government, so companies have to look for replacement material & reformulate the film.

Guess we're just lucky film prices havent kept up with inflation too much the last 20+ years 😂

Prices are not just up for 135 canister film. Sheet film is getting very expensive too. I picked up a box of 100 sheets of Fomapan 100 for half the price of Ilford or Kodak film which I'm looking forward to trying out. I've seen a lot of excellent work with that film from sheet film photographers.

Not sure how film prices track with silver spot values but since the pandemic started silver spot prices look to be up about 30% from pre-covid prices. That may also be contributing to making a bad situation worse.

A roll of tri-x for 9 euros. What a time...

Now I no longer regret buying dozens of expired neopan 400 and Leverkusen-made agfa 100 rolls few years ago...

For some reason, prices of film on Amazon are always very high. The only film they have for reasonable prices is Fuji Instax.

For best prices, order from B&H (free shipping on orders over $50) or Freestyle (lower prices but shipping is extra).
