Dealing with moisture in Camera Body (K20D)
Posted By: tempelorg, 04-27-2011, 03:51 PM

I've recently gotten water inside my K20D's body. Since I was out of warranty, I decided to help myself instead of paying ~200 Euros for service (which would include replacing the seals).

Here's what I did:

I removed all screws from the bottom plate. I used a #00 (I believe) philips screw driver which fits perfectly all screws.

I also removed the lens, battery, memory card, and opened all 3 doors.

I then placed the camera body for half an hour into my stove/oven, set at minimum air flow heating (50 degrees Celsius), which got the body rather hot to the touch, but still bearable.

After that, I let it sit another day openly at room temperature.

That got all the moisture out and the camera works fine again.

Nice tip. Good argument for giving up and going K5!

Glad that this worked. I recently Lost my sony walkman to water, after it fell out of my bag and got rained on. My house mate found it and made the biggest mistake. Tried to turn it on!!.
Although it was completely stuffed after this, i learnt that the circuit boards readily absorb moisture (even from the air) and if you can it is recommended to bake for a couple of hours at 105 Celsius. although I would really doubt you'd get me putting my camera anywhere near an oven at that temp

when I first read the headline, that treatment was exactly my first "solution".

Thx for the confirmation.
