Pentax Lens Disassembly Database
Posted By: Chaos_Realm, 03-22-2012, 05:04 PM

Hi all,
I have recently been on the hunt for dis-assembly guides for the purpose of dust removal etc. They seem to be turning up in various places across the forum, so I plan on creating a list of all the Pentax lens disassembly posts here. I will categorise each lens like they are in the 'lens database' and you should be able to see which lenses have a guide and which do not. If I come across multiple guides then I will list them all under that lens so there is coverage or alternative explanations. And hopefully with your help we will be able to put together a substantial resource for the DIYer's here, although I do realize some lenses will never have an owner brave enough to strip down themselves due to the shear value. I know this will take quite some time but I think it will be worth it. I have restricted time at this point but I want to get the ball rolling. So here is what we have:

NB: Currently this tread is only for Pentax K-Mount & M42 Screw-mount lenses. Maybe once this has developed a bit I might look at introducing other pentax Mounts and or third party lenses and permitting time (and success of this resource) a cleaning guide with tips on tools and techniques. I am trying not to bite off more than I can chew for the moment so we will just stick with lenses listed below.

M42 Screw Mount Lenses

I have recently acquired a Super Takumar 300/f4 which is missing the auto/manual switch. The externally visible switch is missing (and obviously the internal non-visible section of the same part.)

Does anyone have a picture of (photo, exploded lens repair manual or technical drawing) of the Auto/Manual switch part which is missing?

I am thinking of fabricating a part to replace it but life would be much easier if I can see what shape to original part is and if there are things it is meant to connect to.

I will also put this post on Takumar Club.

Does anyone have experience of disassembling a DA 40mm Ltd lens?

I need to fix the infinity focusing which no longer works beyond 25m on my K-30.

Would like to try and repair it myself first if possible so any advice would be appreciated before I give up and take it to a specialist.

I've seen a guide on fixing the same issue on the 21mm Ltd so I assume it is similar but I'm not sure if I need to remove the name ring or not which I am struggling to do at the moment (need to find a proper rubber ring perhaps). The smaller ribbed centre section around the lens opening within the name ring can be removed and reveals 3 little screws but I'm not sure if there are more screws lurking under the name ring. Maybe the name ring on the 40mm doesn't remove as it does on the 21mm due to the smaller lens opening and therefore different design?

TIA

Hello,

I encounter an issue on my pentax A 28-80 lens (on a P30T).
Here are some pics: I think that a spider was inside and make its net !

I remove the front bezel with the cap of a shaving foam spray.
Then the lens came, more or less easily. A suction pad can help (look in the bathroom !)

On the back side, I remove the screws with difficulties; one has to be drilled.
Then unscrew the lens, and the bezel. No real difficulties neither.

The only big issue was with the pin which indicate the automatic mode for the aperture.
This small #$! pin jump out off the lens, as it is only locked by the big bezel !
Once this one is removed, it stand in place thanks to the hand of God, in my opinion.

I spent nearly 2 hours to put it back in place.
So if you have to disassemble the lens, take care to block this pin (with some tape or blue tag for example).

By the way, I clean up all the lens, and the result is very fine now.

It is more likely your lens suffered from fungus. That is how the kind of fungus that grows in lenses looks.

Could someone advise where to buy JIS screw drivers of suitable sizes for maintenance of the old Super Takumar lens (and similar series).

Must be a vendor willing to ship to Australia.

Super Takumars use flat screws. For others, I got a set of 4 Moody screwdrivers from ebay (the same seller don19470 that has them now).

Thanks Vlad.

I am sure I have seen some of these screw heads in my Taks and certainly read about them.

And now what to do with the remaining $8.75 on the gift card?

Awaiting delivery to my office.

50mm ka f2.0 this was fairly easy to clean partly anyway. The inside front is a friction fit and can be unscrewed anti clockwise once this is removed 3 screws are visible unscrewing these takes of the front housing with the filter ring under this is a brass ring held by 3 screws unscrew this the front element comes out access to the inside of the rear element can be gained carefully through the aperture. The front element assembly has 2 pieces of glass with finger nails i was able to anti clockwise unscrew the retaining ring giving me bare glass front element and access to the inside of the rear face. reassembly is just the reverse and pretty difficult to get wrong. I think its possible to separate the rear element pair from the back but it was too tight for me so i left it with 99% of the fungus removed already I didn't see a need to go further. Pretty easy and it all fits together with no problems.
