Pentax Lens Disassembly Database
Posted By: Chaos_Realm, 03-22-2012, 05:04 PM

Hi all,
I have recently been on the hunt for dis-assembly guides for the purpose of dust removal etc. They seem to be turning up in various places across the forum, so I plan on creating a list of all the Pentax lens disassembly posts here. I will categorise each lens like they are in the 'lens database' and you should be able to see which lenses have a guide and which do not. If I come across multiple guides then I will list them all under that lens so there is coverage or alternative explanations. And hopefully with your help we will be able to put together a substantial resource for the DIYer's here, although I do realize some lenses will never have an owner brave enough to strip down themselves due to the shear value. I know this will take quite some time but I think it will be worth it. I have restricted time at this point but I want to get the ball rolling. So here is what we have:

NB: Currently this tread is only for Pentax K-Mount & M42 Screw-mount lenses. Maybe once this has developed a bit I might look at introducing other pentax Mounts and or third party lenses and permitting time (and success of this resource) a cleaning guide with tips on tools and techniques. I am trying not to bite off more than I can chew for the moment so we will just stick with lenses listed below.

Digital Era K-mount Lenses Film Era K-Mount Lenses
M42 Screw Mount Lenses

Thanks for the new video links. I just acquired the 55mm f/1.8 Super Takumar with an oily aperture. Some of the videos show how to strip a Takumar down to clean the blades. I like the Fix Old Cameras vidoe I linked above because the presenter doesn't ramble on like most of these videos do. Most of the time I'm thinking "Get to the point" or "Pause or edit the lengthy process parts".

I'll have to look through that channel and see what other germs are in there.

I just posted a quick description (with images) of how I took apart my Takumar 300mm f4 (3 element 1958 version) to check the infinity focus and re-grease the helical: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/58-troubleshooting-beginner-help/330052-d...958-model.html

Anyone familiar with a SMC Pentax 1000mm f11 reflex lens? Got loads of dust on the rear filters, disassembled as much as I could see possible at the rear but no luck unfortunately.

Adam, you might want to add
to the database , it's on the Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro Planar. A few of use Pentaxians here have this wonderful lens and use it on our K1 cameras.

Also, I just noticed that the above link to the PDF manual on the Pentax 77mm ltd lens requires a password. I tried "Pentax77" and that did not work. If we can't provide the password I suggest that this hot-link be removed.

The password is merely "Pentax". All the password locked documents on pentax-manuals.com use the same password.

Hi Dave, I still check back here to maintain the listing. Adam doesn't manage this (I would assume he is probably busy enough). I have limited this listing to only Pentax lenses as it would be an infinitely huge list if I included other makes. But if people want to discuss other lenses in the posts then it would be more than welcome.

Added these on to the list. (I really need to figure out how to stop the video preview window as my OP is getting a bit clunky when loading. @adam any pointers??)

Apparently in the 1000 odd posts I had never noticed this.

I'm glad this thread is still operational and I've read through all 9 pages. However I did not find what I was looking for to disassemble my Pentax 50-200mm WR lens. It has a spot behind the front element. I want to clean it if possible. Can any one help?

Thanks. I'll look more closely at it later when I have more time. Right now I'm in the middle of building my brother's computer.

Thanks. I think that is the thread I read before but couldn't find on my initial search. And I thought I had bookmarked it.
