K-5 for sports-photography

I started with the K10D and last year upgraded to K7 for the better AF of the K7. I however quickly moved to the K5 since I realy wanted the high ISO performance to shoot indoor sport.
I don't have the Sigma 100-300, just the 70-200 F2.8 HSM II and the Sigma120-400 HSM and especially that combo K5 + 70-200 is very very fast with respect to AF. I have read and seen some movies showing how fast that 100-300 reacts and I think it will team up very well with the great AF of the K5.

Thanks for the response Andre. I needed re-assurance that the K5 should be my next purchase and not a Canon 7D. The K10 has been perfect for everything else I shoot but the sports photography was something I had not anticipated was going to grow. The Sigma 100-300 and K10 combo can cope with cricket and cycling but I dont think people realise how fast a crew of 8 can row and how far they move in one sweep of the blades.

Today I visited the Dutch Volleybal youth girls game against Spain.

Points to win where selebrated with a lot off volume:

I shoot auto racing, usually under artificial light. The best camera I ever had for this purpose, as far as features was the Olympus E-100rs. The flexibility of the rate of exposure, the precapture function which allowed me to watch and then trigger the shutter just after the event I was looking for and the IMAGE STABILIZATION (not anti-shake) which allowed me to take panning shots at as slow as 1/80 of a second made this a great camera. It was, sadly only 1.5 M-pixels and Olympus never attempted to build an updated version.

So I started my hunt for a replacement and ended up with the Pentax K-5, which I am reasonably pleased with. Great low light performance and IQ. I wish it had a true Image Stabilization system and a precapture for burst mode. I have had two recent incidents where the camera locked up and I had to pull out the battery to get it to 'reboot'.

Today in Knokke there where the championshipsround for Belgium Beachvolly tour 2011. Due to the absence off the team Gielen/Mouha (insure and taking more rest for the international games) the team Stephanie van Bree and Karolien Verstrepen where favorite. They where more then once in the finals before. Sun between the clouds and a full stadium with several thousand visitors.

During the game I only used the DA*60-250mm since the distance was a big more then on the previous games. Mostly used 200-250mm.

1) Actie.

2) Communicatie tussen Steph en Karo over veldposities

3) aan het net

4) Kampioensomhelsing na het laatste punt

5) Deze met de FA*85mm van de kampioenen.

i've never watched beach volleyball before...

...but i think i just became a fan. butt seriously, great action shots and technically great captures here.

Oh, just exported them from LR, didn't know that EXIF was gon. I guess I need to change the export settings. Anyway, all ISO800, 135mm, f4, 1/500

That is walking in a danger zone with that ball and only other players around. Nice shots.
