A couple of shots from my latest hockey shooting. Tried some new settings and technique both during shooting and PP. Does it look good to you? The home team i shoot for Sura Blue Hammers (blue and red) has been extremely hot but lost to Lindlöven.

Warning to sensitive viewers, but it's a story I want to tell.
And now to the more tragic part to the part of the game. The physical game just increased and went into a borderline dirty game. One of player in the opposing team got crosschecked and punched in the neck/head area and had to be taken away by an ambulance. Fortunately reading on that teams homepage it states that X-ray didn't show any serious damage but that they want a long suspension for crosschecking player. So a brutal story that ended pretty well and doesn't belong at a hockey rink.

I avoided all close-ups of the injured player as I don't think it is necessary to tell the story and not fair to the player or others. But tell me i you find it too brutal and I will delete it.

i really like those shots, visual, but a couple seem a bit too "high key"? or is that just an inevitable consequence of shooting ice-field sports with so much of the frame and background white?

It's my editing. I edit them pretty much in a bulk fashion as I have to upload them quickly after the game. I like the look of blown out ice as I as many others grew tired of grey ice after one season. I like your feedback tough and I think especially some helmets, white ones should be prohibited, are too blown out due to being the brightest objects in the shots. Plexi glass and bad lighting, somewhat uneven, doesn't help either.
Can you point out which ones you find over the top? My monitor is brutal so I go almost exclusively by the histogram.

Actually, you might not have a problem, it could be my laptop. I'm out now, and looking on my phone they seem better. The goal celebration on one knee still seems a trifle harsh in the foreground, and the injured guy going off foreground is blown in patches, but the over the top yellow stripes on the rink fence is better balanced. I will check my screen when I get home. They look good .

Cycling -off camera flash shot

Matt B,

Sorry I'm late with the comment, but love your cycling shot with the off camera flash. Great framing, nicely done.

Some shots from yesterday. Our team PSV/FCE (in white shirt) won with 3-2 against Ajax, wich has some meaning in the Netherlands. This was the first match in Eindhoven (040 after the phonenumber) against Ajax Amsterdam (020) since both teams started in august. New record in visitors in tyhe stadium with 2138 people well on our way to a full house (4600).

Nice shots. But in some the colour looks strange. Looks like the reddish colour from the running surface is reflecting back onto the athletes. Not much one can do about it, I suppose.

I don't take many sports shots, I'm more of a 'natural world' person. However when I saw the ice hockey photos here I thought I could maybe add this one. It shows much younger players.

Nice use of perspective distortion! Shooting skateboarding seem like fun but it looks hard to get good results like this.

Try shooting through the glass to get a better perspective (faces etc) and add contrast in in PP and I bet you will have fun shooting hockey too!

The face of the girl in the first shoot is priceless! You can see her thinking "Stupid rain" but she still looks extremely determined despite the weather.

Thanks! I wanted to emulate what I remember seeing in Thrasher magazine as a teen. I like it too.

These are stunning!
I love the rain.

I am guessing they were shot with the DA* 300?
