Pentax should enable current K-7 owners to a 50% reduction in price toward the new K-5.

I had really thought about buying the Sigma 500 F 4.5 but after reading the reviews and talking to some people, it seems that lens is sharpest at F8 which only a stop better than the 150-500 which is very nice at F9 or 10, but so hard to maintain good shutter speeds except in very bright light. The Long Lens Support from Really Right Stuff helps with the shutter speed somewhat, but I'm really looking forward to what the K5 can do.

Question: Should K-r owners be able to join the K-5 club, or should they have their own club? That camera looks like it might be getting overlooked a bit. It has the makings of being a cult classic just like its spiritual predecessor, the K200D.

I shoot mine with the K20d at ISO 200 f8.0 at about 1/200-1/250 normally. Works fine.

lol wasn't it just a couple of months ago you were "trimming" your systems

i'm still holding out for the 645D and 3/4 lenses passing on the 35mm to the nephews who are into astrophotgraphy now with an old rebel i gave them 2 years ago.

if i didn't splurge on the Canon 7D system i wouldn't be holding out and probably would join the K5 club too

Systems are still trimmed (though that was lenses). I'll be replacing my K-7 with this.

I've pre ordered the K5 but keeping my K20D so I can go the 2 camera path with different focal lengths covered.

I was contemplating jumping ship to Canon (7D) or Nikon (D7000) but I rather think the K5 is going to be the thing for me. I won't be giving up my K200D though, I'm really attached to it... to the point where I had to choose between it and the K-x I bought... and I sold the K-x.

K5 though... yep, when I have the dosh to buy.

Now we have a bunch of older bodies stashed away in drawers.

Beth, good choice. I haven't had many cameras, but I was attached to them all and was silly enough to let them, go as I upgraded. My adult son is now a keen photographer, doing great work, and he could have started fifteen years earlier if I had kept my old gear! (Hand-me-down Practika IV, to Konica Autoreflex, to Pentax MZ50, to *istDS) (The Practika had a f2.9 Meyer Meritar lens - probably one element in one group!! LOL - But a great learning tool)

I preordered it two days ago. It's the first Pentax I am buyng new, since the 1994 Pentax Z1P. I own istD, K10 and K20, but I bought them all used (actually I am selling the K20D).
