I'm sure it would have been manual mode.
I don't know whether the K-5 has a tendency to expose lighter, but even if that's the case the lab images should feature a consistent exposure. Afterall, the end user of a camera will also adjust camera settings and/or tweak the exposure in post-processing to get the exact exposure they want.
I'm not saying that DPR intentionally allowed the D7000 and K-5 to expose lighter, but if somebody
did want to do a little something to make the D60 look better than the competition, this would be one way to do it.
