Distance from bottom of the k7/k5 to the lens mount.

I'm trying to have a custom L-bracket manufactured for my k10d, but I would like to make sure it will center the k5 as well when I get one. Therefore, can someone with a set of calipers measure the distance from the bottom of the metal mount ring to the bottom of the camera?

I want to ensure that it will work in vertical orientation.

With or without the grip? Note that on the Grip, the tripod screw is not lens centered (if that matters to you).

Looks like 7.6mm from table top to bottom of the metal on the lens mount according to Mr Starret. That's probably as accurate as I'm going to be able to get.

Mr. GENERAL says 7.5mm and Mr. MITUTOYO says 0.2958"=7.513mm
Grip is a different story.

I would say ungripped, I have the knockoff grip for the k10d, but it really isn't stable enough to use on a tripod. Is the k5 grip very stable?

The K-5/7 at least, have 4 tiny bumpers which make it sit raised on a glass table. Screw to a metal plate for exact measure. (which I don't have ATM)

For that to be an issue his L-bracket would have to be a narrow one, like less than 22mm.
Or else it will not miss the small tabs. And if so, then deduct about 0.35mm.

Thanks for the advice about the k5's bumps. I've got the CAD model almost ready and I'm going to have it prototyped in 6061.

I making it so it will include Manfrotto RC-2 quick release plates, and I think I have a plan to accommodate both and allow it to centre. Depending on size i may extend it so it will worked gripped.
