here is a crop of my Vienna pic. Its a handheld auto HDR as mentioned with the FA*85mm @f/2.2 ... i was quite surprised how well the automatic alignment of the HDR function works!!! And see the crop, I think its sharp enough for 2-star handheld HDR-JPG OOC

Many of the photos are focused close with a wide aperture making for a very narrow to razor thin in-focus area. A photo forum such as this is going to be filled with people exploring the artistic aspect of photography and the bokeh of a lens. Any softness seen is entirely the usage of the lens.

Case in point, photographs that are stopped down: Take a look at any of the originals of IGP0354 -> IGP0336 in this album http://public.fotki.com/m8o/memorable_images/scenery/cityscapes/ and tell me they're 'soft'.

First real pics i have been able to take. 77Ltd, Av mode, onboard flash. Just to see what i was going to get, LOL
JPEG's to boot. Not bad for point and shoot.

#1 K5/ smc 4.8/80-200 MF lens

#2 K5/smc 4.5/80-200 mf lens

#3 k5/Da35mm ltd lens (Today's Temperature!)

Considering1 & #2 are taken with an old MF lens, and with my spectacles, the result was quite breathtaking IMHO.

+1 Here is the crop of the photo that I've shared. The leaves of the cloth is even visible though this is not a macro photography. In such a big size photo if such sharpness is obtained, it's not possible to talk about softness.

Some great shots, right through, and good testimony to the sharpness etc of the K5.
Having read through this and the other thread, I have come to the conclusion, ogl and his doubting comments, are just a waste of time and space. My opinion, anyway.

I here the arguments and see the pics BUT how do they differ in any way from my FEW amateur pics in my pf gallery in terms of sharpness, color, etc - all taken with an ancient K10D?

This is just imho, but K-5 to me seem like it has superior light-to-dark transitions that make it pop in more ways than one. If you think the images are the same, then more power to you

I do think K10 is one of the sharpest dslrs that there is, but the K-5 has that special quality that the K10 dont have.

On the other hand, I think K10 also produces way more filmlike (C41) images than K-5...

What Really Matters......
I brought Otis in to view these shots for his Professional Squirrel opinion. Not much else matters if a camera can't render a great Squirrel Shot, does it? He viewed all the shots here, and generally thought they were excellent, but when he got to the Squirrel on P.1 , he did think it was soft....and "cuddly"! He also thought that those thinking the K5 is deficient are in need of some serious counseling, a major eye examination, and a visit by his Squirrel Army. Otis is not much for BS....unless he is the provider, and wonders how this kind of insanity comes about in the human world? Me too!
