K-5 and Infrared

My first infrared attempt with my K-5...
I used a Heliopan 780 infrared filter on my DA* 55mm, 800 ISO, 20" at F2.8.
The left flower (lily) is white/green and the right flower (cala) is black/red.

I desaturated, reduced noise and contrasted in PaintShop Photo Pro X3 Ultimate.

Click on the photo and type "L" to see it large...

How does the 780NM filter compare to say the hoya r72? Have you used both at all? By those exposure numbers, seems the K5 won't be doing much handheld IR!

The Heliopan is much darker, but the light wasn't very bright in my room... I will try in sunlight tomorrow...

Does the camera sensor still have the blue/green ir blocking filter installed, or did you have the camera converted to ir?

In that case you are just using a filter that is allowing only red light to transmit giving a nice effect, but not a true infrared result. The only possible IR light coming thru is the possible leaking IR light that may not be completely blocked by the IR blocking filter on the sensor. Even so I doubt that Pentax has a weak blue/green filter. Here is an example of a Pentax Kx modified to having no IR blocking hot mirror, but a CLR (clear) glass with no AA added. An R72 fliter on the 50/1.4 Super Tak with the channels swapped for the false color effect.

Looks pretty technical Dalen.
Nice result with the K-x.
Both the K-x and K-5 seem to be quite amenable to IR photography using a traditional Hoya 720nm IR filter. Just did a test drive myself and found the images to come out well, as it did with the K10D.

Wow thats absolutely amazing i've always loved ir and wish i was better at it but i could never seem to get the pure white foliage as you did. With some trial and error i can mange to get the blue sky effect though. Where did you get you kx modified to have the aa filter removed. I might purchase a older dslr for that reason.

I was thinking about modifying my *istDL, but the prices for the mod always seemed so high - plus, how much would I really use it?

Has anyone tried doing much with the infrared mode on the K5? I know it is only simulated infrared, but it is still there.

Looks nice, I have hoya r72 but not yet on my K-5. Will give it a try, since I like the looks of these pictures.
