If it is in the filter glass, then some Nikon D7000's might have it too. Any confirmed reports from that side of the aisle?

But ok, it all makes sense now. And the cover glass is Sony's responsibility which means Pentax doesn't pay with profit meant for our next models.
That is unless Sony buys that glass from Hoya

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a diagram of how the sensor is constructed, including the layer of glass where the 'beads' appear?

I am having a difficult time visualising the problem.

for example Canon :

for example Nikon :

for example - that is under all the glass (AA and IR filters) - on top of the sensor surface :

Thank you! Now I understand a little better.

It is a very complex construction. I find it amazing that any light gets through to the sensor at all given all the layers of filters and glass.

Good question. I have posed this or similar questions on other threads but have seen no replies. Are D7000 owners experiencing the same problem or is this a Pentax K-5 owners-only thing?

Shouldn't Nikon D7000 be affected too?

But that would be another department within Hoya. Not hitting Pentax budgets.

I always said that it's Sony's responsibilty if it is (under) the cover glass. And Pentax' if it is above the cover glass or in the AA filter assembly. Still correct.

You said the AA filter assembly comes from Sony. Still uncorrect.

My "I feel stupid now" remark was tongue-in-cheek

My post cited earlier contained the diagram, i.e., my cut photograph.

I attach it here again. It is zoomed 4x in the vertical direction. The defect is where the 3 green lines are situated.

+ rep points for ya FalconEye, as you were able to accurately predict were the problem was just by some obscure calculation...

EDIT : hummm, seems like you're one of the last person I recently gave Rep points to, so the forum wouldn't accept my request! Sorry!

Or Sony and their SLT?

But it's common knowledge that they all have their own share of unique issues anyway to face... so let's play the more difficult game "Name one manufacturer that doesn't" instead.

Yes, a reader asked the question, but the magazine got a response from a spokesperson from the factory.

FTA:

In response a spokesman for the factory told us: 'A report concerning contamination on a K-5 sensor has been brought to our attention.

'We are investigating this as a matter of urgency.'
