My wife bought me the K5 via amazon around Nov 20th (I think) does Amazon have price protection? Meaning if selling cheaper they give you the difference within time period?

I wonder if those warehouse deals are returned cameras due to the sensor stain issue?

Add another $45 to the cost to get a square trade warranty. I think I'd need assurance that there's no issue with the camera but I guess it's returnable if stained. Tempting...

Still waiting for the damn 18-135 kit. Where the hell are they?

Amazon doesn't have price protection. They may have at some point, but not for at least the last year or more. If you ask (which I did once), they will tell you that you have to return the old camera and buy it again at the lower price.

Looks like the K-5 is back up to 1536 now anyway, so it was a short lived drop

The Amazon Warehouse deals are customer returns. So if someone returned a K-5, but didn't say it was "defective/stained", then it's quite possible that you could end up with that situation. However, you have the same 30 day return policy if that were the case so it might be worth the risk if someone wanted to take it.

That were the serial database or the stain pool could be good but not everybody put their serial #

The only two times I have bought from warehouse deals, they have been bumped/warehouse damaged outerboxes, and definitely not returns. Both were labelled as 'minor cosmetic damage'...in the case of my 15mm limited, it was mint in a box that had a minor corner ding. Considering they have the same return policy as amazon themselves, they are definitely worth a try if the price is worth it. YMMV!

Yeah, I'm certainly not suggesting that they are all customer returns, but some are. And even if it is a customer return, it could very easily be a return that has nothing to do with a stained sensor - could just be that someone changed their mind

FWIW, I've bought a couple Amazon Warehouse deals without issue.

Well, I got one just now! I have also bought from Amazon warehouse deals before (the DA 70) with just a box issue. Also, Amazon has extended its return policy for the holidays - you can return items until Jan 31, 2011.
I have returned some lenses before (clearly indicating there was a problem) and as far as I know they have not shown up as warehouse deals, so I am hoping this one will be a"change of mind" thing.
It looks like they have more available
