firmware and question help please

My serial # on the k-5 is 395 series. How can I find out the firmware installed or if I need to upgrade to 1.01
also
Being new to Pentax what is the red SR stand for?

To check the firmware version number, turn your camera on while holding down the MENU button.

You may also use the freeware Photome (http://www.photome.de/). It will provide a lot info on your shots as well as your camera shutter count (at time of shot) and firmware (used for the photo).
Photome is a very nice utility that can be recommended to all.

great. it worked. seems the K-5 has version 1.01 installed. Any idea what the silver letters SR mean?

Shake Reduction.

Pentax builds shake reduction into the camera body rather than into the lenses - it works by moving the sensor to compensate for the photographer shaking his hands when hand holding.

Welcome to Pentax land!

And two welcoming suggestions:

1. You'll be happier here, and treated better, if you'll take some time to dig into the manual and/or search this forum before posting questions. A few folks will get a bit churlish absent some effort on your part prior to posting.

2. There is a section here for beginner's questions. It would probably be worth your while to poke around there, as well. You may find answers to questions you hadn't yet thought of. For me, that's one of the real values of PF.
