250 is quite slow for 500mm ,do you have some examples? as I think to get this lens also with K5II
Thanks
Below is a picture of a woodpecker I took with my Sigma 150-500 at 500 mm. I was using my K-5, the shutter speed was at 250,the camera sr was on, and the F stop was at 6.3. The OS was off on my lens. When I am doing faster moving wildlife I do increase the shutter speed, but in this case it proved to be alright as with other casual wildlife movement. I love my Sigma 150-500 lens and am happy with its performance both when I used it with my K20D and with my K-5. If you get one you will not be disappointed. As you have seen in the test examples using one or the other (SR or OS) you get reasonable results. In my case I am satisfied using the camera SR. As I mentioned the picture is below.

I wonder if the K5IIs would bring out even more detail in shots like yours? have you had to try many 150-500 examples to find a good one? very hard to get a selection of these here in Denmark and abit overpriced.

Per reviews I have read about the K-5IIs it does yield more accurate images than the K-5 or the K-5II due to the fact that it does not utilize a filter. The K-5II and K-5IIs supposedly have more autofocus capability in the very low light situations than the K-5 per what I have read in reviews. The K-5 does very well in low light which is one of its prized qualities, the K-5II and K-5IIs bring this quality further. In relation to what I stated before, please note that the K-5II does still have a filter as the K-5 does, but the K-5IIs does not which in reviews has been stated as providing more clarity and accuracy in images. I have found myself that the K-5 really provides superior performance in all aspects. With respect to K-5II and IIs, they are carrying on in the same direction, but have valuable improvements made to the same line. The K-5 is a superior/satisfying type of product, but if you want to go the furthest step in the technology to the K-5 line you may want to get the IIs, but the K-5 is still on the market. I think about the image quality of the IIs, and may get it or one of its' Pentax relatives in the future, and I have to admit that it does have some improvements, but it is modeled after the K-5 which provides outstanding and reliable performance. Any of the K-5 line are excellent and are available. They are all worth their designated prices and are professional level performing equipment. Below is a picture I took with my K-5 recently of some of the Adirondack Mountains from a mountain brook. I used a Pentax 18-55 AF II lens (wide angle). As I mentioned before I also use the Sigma 150-500 with a K-5 and get excellent results.

I just wanted to mention some of the specs for the image above, they are F9, 250 shutter, 250 iso, and -3ev (exposure compensation). The lens was at 18 mm.

Yes! And you will also notice that the distortion correction and lateral CA adjust shows up on the INFO screen as enabled as well. I have had pretty good luck with the K-5 Sigma 150-500 combo. Enjoy!
The corrections menu is available with some Tamron lenses as well, and the camera pauses as though it's working, but in the finished image, no changes are made. Pentax corrections only work with FA Limited, D FA and DA lenses according to Pentax. I doubt very much that they will correct a Sigma.

Do you use Sigma OS or K-5 anti-shake? Thanks
I have now created a USER profile with some setting for the 150-500. I now turn OFF the SR and use the Sigma OS. it gives me good results and for longer focal lengths it's good to have a stabilized view.

I have done the same and get good results, The slight pause for OS1 to stabilize took some getting used to but really does give a sharper image. OS2 is for horizontal panning and works well also. I really do like this lens. Haven't tried it on the IIS yet but will be this weekend.

Regards,

David

Nice to see others using this combo.

Works quite well for me even though the 50-500 might do a better job. Still The lens renders fine on my K5.
Here's 2 from today at F8 1/320 ISO1000 thru a window.

I know the title says "K-5"...but here's a photo I took tonight with the K-5 IIs and the Sigma 150-500. Sigma OS on, Pentax SR off.

SR vs OS

Very nice shot. Which do you normally use Sigma OS or Pentax SR? Are there situations where one works better than the other?

Thanks
