K-5 mysteriously deactivated on Newegg

Both PENTAX K-5 packages sold on Newegg (body only and DA 18-55mm WR kit) are currently listed as deactivated items:

Newegg.com - PENTAX K-5 Black 16.3 MP 3.0" 921k LCD Digital SLR Camera
Newegg.com - PENTAX K-5 Lens Kit w DA 18-55 WR Black 16.3 MP 3.0" 921k LCD DSLR

This doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for a new item. This could be related to the sensor staining problem for which PENTAX has acknowledged. What are your thoughts on this?

Could just be out of stock like it says. Both B&H and Amazon have been out of stock for the last two weeks or so. I think B&H just got a shipment in recently.

Deactivated. This item is currently out of stock and it may or may not be restocked.

Very strange.

The only items I have personally seen "Deactivated" on Newegg are junk items they refused to carry again that had been utter failures for quality or items that they simply could not get restocked due to the fact they were no longer made or available. They then remove links from the search. For something out of stock they simply say they are out of stock but maybe they do things different for cameras.

Search Pentax k-20, it is out of stock and deactivated but still has a link, the Pentax K-5 has no ending link to even acknowledge they even carried it.

Why don't you ask them?

Newegg deactivates items that they don't have in stock or simply don't want to sell at the time. Newegg owed me a free bookbag(long story), but they had it listed as deactivated, but eventually it came back in stock and now it's back.

Some search engines are stupid, and there is no "-" in K20D.

I am hoping it is simply search stupidity in this case as well. I was getting ready to go ahead and make the purchase of a K-5 to add to my K-7 on the basis that the stain issue is getting under control and that they had opened up bulb above 1600 but was still not decided based on the FF / tungsten issue. But now the mirror slap topic has scared me again because I have lost one of a kind pictures in the past due to the blur issue on my k-7. I will be following that one real close since that was one of those things that was never fixed in the k-7.

With the number of K-5's being replaced for sensor issues, the supply line may be low, spotty or even non-existent at this time. I bet Newegg will have them back in the future.

I've not yet seen anyone use this as Evidence of The Inevitable Demise of Pentax.

It seems we're getting better ....

Probably just a stocking issue...

Heck even Pentax Canada has delays to wait for stock from Japan to replace the stained units being sent it...

Think about it, the K5d is a super hot seller + Pentax has to replace a high percentage of all the cameras sold in late 2010. Severe back orders are almost inevitable.

newegg also recently (like a couple days ago) had a 15% off all DSLRs sale.

Every time the have a DSLR sale, pentax bodies and kits suddenly go poof unless they are close outs.
