Thank you for the directions guys. I just got a second k-5 on the lightening deal at amazon and I received it Wednesday. I am normally very careful about formatting cards before I use them because I have so many diffent pentax dslrs. But this time in my haste I did not. I didn't want my brand new k-5 to be on frame 9,000 something like my first k-5. So with your direction I was able to fix my blunder. When I viewed in PhotoME I see that I was the first person to trip the shutter on my new k-5 which is weird since the package looked like it was repacked and not "factory fresh". Hey, I don't care how the pack it as long as it is new and it seems to be if PhotoME is an indicatior. Thanks again!

So I tried all the remedies you mention and still I have 5100 pictures on the card. What else can be wrong as I really want to reset the number to zero.

Let me go back a bit in this thread ... I will return a message.

If a spare card is available, it is suggested to try below to reset the image number to zero.

1. Current Card: Card A
2. Standby Card: Card B
3. Insert the newly-formatted Card B and take a photo.
4. Insert the Card A and take a photo.
5. Connect the Card B with a computer and then change the photo name from ????#### to ????9999. (? = Any character; # = any number)
6. Insert the Card B again and take a photo. The photo name is ????0001.
7. If you want to use back the Card A, please have to back up the files to your computer and then format the Card A. Insert the Card A again and take a photo. The photo name is ????0002.

If want to set the image count to certain number, say 7620, you should ...

1. Insert the newly-formatted Card B and take a photo. Take it out and change the photo name to ????9999 via you computer.
2. Back up the files of Card A to your computer and then format the Card A.
3. Insert the Card A and take a photo. Take it out and change the photo name to ????7619
4. Insert the Card B again and take a photo. The photo name is ????0001.
5. Insert the Card A again and take a photo. The photo name is ????7620.
