Ei digi kamera eikä K-5 myöskään ole mikään videokamera. Jos haluaa oikeita videokuvia kannattaa ostaa oikea videokamera. Se on vain köyhänmiehen toive uni, että kaiken saa ilmaiseksi.
*If you want take video you must get real video camera*
With this I disagree vehemently.
Professional video cameras capable for the same quality filming are HUGE size and too expensive so only entities with lots of money can afford these. And movie industry can keep swimming in dough.
With the introduction movie mode in DSLR artists can produce video in quality that is almost good for broadcasting thus allowing more creative people participate and compete in movie making.
I bought my K-5 specially for filming. I choose it because I had excellent lenses from my K10D. Otherwise I had got Canon 5D.

There are no inherent file system limitations to speak of regarding modern file systems and SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards.

ie: any SD card can be formatted to any of the various flavors of these file systems: FAT, NTFS, HFS, ext, XFS, ZFS. . . . . . . (Depending on your computer you may have more, less, or other formatting options)

The real limitation is the formats that the K-5 will recognize and format your card as. . . . . . . (currently only FAT32)
Are you implying that the K-5 will recognize only FAT32? Or are you implying that with non-SDXC cards the K-5 will recognize only FAT32 (but that the K-5 will recognize another format with SDXC cards)?

FYI about SDXC 64GB / 128GB

FAT64 is not exFAT . If you buy a SDXC 64GB ( I got Lexar 64GB x133) , just insert in your K-5 , find in Menu somewhere with Memory - Format . The next step is to install the exFAT driver for you laptop or desktop which can get from Microsoft Window. For Linux -Ubuntu , it's a bit complex because exFAT support is still in beta version .

And don't think your video files will be bigger and longer. I see only 5'23'' with FullHD 25fps ! Ask Pentax for unlimited size ! But I think it's better following someone suggest by slicing video file as VOBs in DVD , therefore, they're more safer if something wrong happens with big file.

I experienced the same issue. Here is the reply I got from Pentax...

-----------------------------

Thank you for contacting PENTAX. The limit for recording a video clip on the K-5 is 4GB. This means that when the movie file size reaches 4GB, which is about the length you describe in HD 720p 30fps recording mode, the camera must stop recording and then be restarted. If you want to record longer video clips, up to 25 minutes maximum, you must lower the movie quality setting in the K-5's Rec. Mode menu. Here are approximate recording times in move mode on the K-5 by quality settings:

MOVIE (H:M:S) 3 star 2 star 1 star
1080p25 00:01:19 00:01:44 00:02:25
720p30 00:02:08 00:03:16 00:04:33
720p25 00:02:33 00:03:54 00:05:26
VGA, 30 FPS 00:06:17 00:09:30 00:13:04
VGA, 25 FPS 00:07:31 00:11:19 00:15:29

Hi everyone

I just got my K5.
I tried to do some movie using 16 GB SDHC memory card.
On lcd it shows me 34 minutes recording. When is recording it shows
8 minutes .....some seconds. After then i have to press the shutter release button again .
Why i can not record continuously?
Any sugestions.
Thanks. Kende
K5 records in uncompressed MPEG, if I recall. The file sizes are huge in comparison to my Canon 1080p HD cam. I have used K5 for video once and gave up after that. On the other hand, I take my s100 with me wherever I go as it's ok in phototaking and great in recording videos.

So to cut things short. You can't record longer than 5 minutes and a few seconds at hq *** 25p because of the fat32 4GB file size limit. You would be able to record longer with exfat since it doesn't have that limit.

But de K5 has to support it.

We know K5 can use sdxc cards (with up to date firmware) but can it read exfat? I converted an old sdcard to exfat. It couldn't read that (my pc can). I don't have an sdxc card. So does somebody have an sdxc card? Can he or she check whether it is recognized at all when formatted in exfat. If so is it able to record longer than 5 minutes or does the k-5 habitually cut it of at 4gb anyway?

The 4 GB size limit is a limit of FAT32.

The 30 minute time limit for DSLRs is because of import duties - if a camera can record more than 30 minutes of video it is taxed as a video camera. There is discussion of eliminating this tax going on now.

The K-5 is a notoriously lousy video camera, not just because you have no control of focus or exposure, but because the video codec is AVI wrapped in MJPEG files, which is about the least efficient format you can get. The output-per-second of video data is massive compared with AVCHD. On the upside the actual image quality of AVI is better.

Even when I agree with the lousiness of K-5 video capabilities I struggle to use it instead of buying Lumix GH2 is the codec used. Maybe it is just my needs that this suits the best but I can not get the same quality video out of any H.264. Only if Pentax would use AVCHD Progressive (maybe the new K-01 does) I would agree. So far AVCHD is mostly interlaced scan and thus useless and meaningless on contemporary video.

Oh goodie, can anyone tell me if the K-5 can record hour of video and actually done it?
If someone's idea works and is cheap alternative I give them $20!

Darn, I got this K-5 and was so happy and then find out about the video limitations
I think it would made a great video camera. Do the image sensors really overheat or is that just something that is said?
Anyone hear this from Pentax themselves?

It's not the card problem, the shown time is time before K5 sensor overheats and battery dies.
Incorrect.

You have to research before you buy.

Incidentally, the D7000 has a hack to allow unlimited recording. It also appears that it is UHS compliant from the notes published by the hackers, so it could be possible that even higher quality hacks will be in the pipeline.
