K-5, "item under review" on Amazon

Sad, but true:

"Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible."

Amazon.com: Pentax K-5 16.3 MP Digital SLR with 18-55mm Lens and 3-Inch LCD (Black): Camera & Photo

Of course, this only applies to the K-5 w/18-55WR kit. If you look at the Body Only, there is no advisory, (Amazon.com: Pentax K-5 16.3 MP Digital SLR with 3-Inch LCD (Black Body Only): Camera & Photo). So I'm not sure it has anything to do with the K-5 per se.

Ugh. This has the potential to scare off a lot of potential buyers. Well, at least those consumers that haven't visited this forum...

It could just be that more kits were purchased and as a result the number of kits returned crossed some threshold to trigger the advisory. I know I personally bought and returned two K-5 kits to Amazon over the past 5 months :ugh:

Bought a body only last month (SN#392XXXX) from Amazon with multiple stain spots. Just received a replacement yesterday (SN#396XXXX) with 2 spots and have yet to heat it up. The first one's stains did get a bit darker after using live view for about 20 minutes.

How do you update to 1.02?

Firmware update from Pentax.

Was yours a kit or body only?

It was a body only. Love the camera but don't want a defective one. Might return this one if the spots get worse and get the silver one--love the retro design!

The firmware on the camera is 1.01. Was wondering how to update it to 1.02?

The directions for updating on available on the site. Be sure to follow it well.

I am a bit concerned about you finding spots in that second camera's number range. I ran two full videos back to back to warm things up. Still seeing nothing on a quick glance for spots.

Just Got 1 Today (Feb 11)

I just received my 2nd 'body only' today from Amazon (1st from Adorama) S/N 3909xxx, one spot, lower right corner. Tried a wet cleaning, no go. Sending it back for another.

The camera arrived around 4PM today. I checked and cleaned it a number of times before submitting a return request from Amazon around 6PM. As I type this, I get an email from Amazon which states:

"Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.

I'm so sorry about the problem you had with your item.

I've placed a new order for the item. There's no charge for this replacement. Here are the details of the new order:

Order Number : XXXX
Shipping Speed : Two-Day Shipping
Estimated Delivery Date : February 15 "

I'm impressed, Adorama wanted to bill my card a second time before shipping a replacement, so I opted for a refund. Hopefully the 2nd from Amazon will be spotless.

You can't really infer much from the "Item Under Review" statement on Amazon. Here's one on a K-cup coffee.
