How can you tell your true shutter count and did anyone get a new K5 that already had a lot of actuations on it?

You need to download a program like PhotoME and you can use it to read the complete EXIF info from a picture you took with the camera. The info will be contained in the EXIF data.

FWIW, unlike most previous models, the K-5 bodies were reset to zero when shipped out from Pentax.

I appreciate the reply and I will check out Photome. I am going to sell my K5, K10d and all Pentax gear and need an accurate way to find shutter count. I am really going to miss the K5, but can't afford to keep two systems.....Maybe one day I will have one in hand again.

Täytyy ensin kasvaa ja sitten aloittaa uudelleen valokuvaus harrastus.

Certainly not leaving the hobby, but I am switching to a Nikon FF. Eventually I would like to have another Pentax to use with those awesome limited lenses...

I found that PhotoMe is for PC......I know how to look up shutter count for Nikon using EXIF data, but when you look in the same place for Pentax nothing shows for shutter count.

Shoot a JPG with your K-5 set at the lowest resolution and quality (since the count is all you want) and upload it here. Will show the count for a Pentax file whether you use a Mac or PC or Linux or whatever.

thanks for the help, but that appears to be a dead link and even when I google "myshuttercount" it brings me to the same dead page.

I'm glad I checked that site out. The file names on my K-5 started out like IMGP2352.jpg

I was hoping the 2352 wasn't the shutter count. But what a random number to start at?

There is a Mac program (Exif Viewer) that can be accessed using a "droplet" mini-app you can also download. Link to this site: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/82399-mac-software...tml#post834769

Good day,

I' ve put my SDHC Card into a Fujifilm with ~7k pics, and then returned it into my K-5. The problem is that my camera now counts from the 7k pics of the Fujifilm, not from its original 2k...
How can I modify this?

Thank you!

So, if the shutter count is reset, there's no way of knowing if the body's been previously used!
