Sorry to bring up yet another thread on the Satin issue - BUT -
Before I bought my K-5, I read up on the stain issue and ran across the Serial Number where the stain issue had supposedly been resolved.

I thought I marked that thread but now I can't find it.
I have searched for it throughout the forum but still can't find it.
So, now I am left with simply posting this message and hoping someone out there remembers or better yet has written down which Serial number that was and will pass it on to me here.

My Thanks in advance for whoever may respond with that number !

I remember the thread can't find it now though
however it may be moot now as apparently they are replacing sensors, the camera shows the old serial number but the internal has changed so there will be units out there that should be called refurbs with old #s that are fine (not all dealers mention refurb though any trustworthy one will, and the box should be marked as such but it is a sticker and therefore removable by the less scrupulous retailers)

I've read this statement from Google results,

"all cameras having serial number larger than 3973*** are fine"

I am not sure if this is true or how this was concluded. According to the PF K-5 Serial database, the largest serial with a reported stain problem so far is 3965255

...so I suppose there is some truth to this statement.

I think that was the thread I saw.
When I ordered mine from B&H I thought I would get a Serial Number newer than 3973xxx.
But mine was 3938xxx so I started to look again for the thread.
Although I haven't noticed any staining yet.

I hadn't thought about that.
But with a S/N of 3938xxx I suspect that S/N is too early for them to do that on.
So far everything seems to be Ok.

I got my K-5 this past weekend and the serial is 3947xxx. So far I have not noticed any stains, but I have not made an effort to take pictures at f/22 with infinity focus (e.g. picture of a clear sky). How are you testing yours?

As mentioned in another thread today, you can't go by the serial#, you go by the manufacture date. It's in the exif and PhotoMe will display it, as will other programs. Pentax has officially stated that any camera made after week 50 of 2010 is safe. There is no official safe serial# range, as serials are not assigned in a strictly linear fashion.

Thanks for that information. I was unaware of it.
I just naturally thought the S/Ns were sequential by build date.

I haven't 'tested' it so to speak.
I just haven't noticed it on any pictures I have taken.
But I haven't taken any f22 focused to infinity with it either.
Thanks for that info too. Somehow I missed that or forgot about it in the threads I saw.
I'll have to do that tomorrow & see.

I posted this in the other thread. Mine has a much higher serial number, but was built 10 days before DogLover's.

I have a 399XXXX serial number, but it has a 1/15/11 pro. date. Serial numbers mean nothing. DogLover's K-5 was built 1/25/11, but with a serial number of 393XXXX
