Question guys. when I bought my k-7 last year it has already 200 shutter actuations. Im surprised my k-5 has zero. Don't they supposed to test the camera first? Any comments would be appreciated.
Yeah, there is a thought that Pentax is resetting shutter counts back to zero before they leave the factory because so many people were freaked out about having 200 clicks on their new camera.

I got my camera on January 14th from Amazon, Serial number is 390xxxxxx and it was fine, no stains at all. I was freaked out finding so many people out there own defected cameras.
I run the suggested hot-to-find-stains test and it was clean, no stains.
Just enjoy your cameras, if it takes good picture, it's fine

Bossy, keep running sensor tests (once a week, maybe) on your camera to make sure the stains don't develop over time. I got my K-5 (serial 3965xxx) December 22 and 1,050 shots later, on March 18, the stains appeared. I emailed Pentax USA and sent along a sample shot with stains and they said to send the camera to CRIS with proof of purchase and it would be replaced with a new one. They also said they were running about two weeks between receiving the old and getting new from Pentax to send back.

Yes, but your camera was made before week 50, 2010. That is the official safe manufacturing date from Pentax. Please don't spread stuff like this and increase the already ridiculous amount of hysteria. An occasional sensor check is ok (and probably a good idea, just generally), but we don't all need to wring our hands over this.

Technically, his was made on the first day of week 50. I guess it depends on how you calculate it?

Quoting henryk

"The build date of my K-5 (Serial 3965XXX) is 12/10/11"

I'm assuming he meant 12/10/10 According to my Lotus Notes calendar, December 10 was day 344. This was just after the 49th week, 49 * 7 = 343.

Kind of meaningless to debate boundary case, but I wish Pentax could be more precise with the cut-off date.

EDIT: Just realized that it was supposed to be calendar week, in which case, yes December 10 was from week 49. Sorry.

Well, officially, the safe range is anything after week 50. Also, that is extremely quick to have the camera in hand only 12 days after manufacture. A record, maybe.

I checked the first picture I took with my K-5 in PhotoME and saw that the shutter count was ~170. Maybe mine didn't get reset?

So did mine, but I think it was a shot of my foot by mistake? By #10 I had me a female Cardinal in a tree at ISO 3200! Been shooting anything that moves or doesn't ever since! This was when I discovered that my Bigma no longer hunted like a hound to focus......even at 500mm, it is fast and accurate!

Well, 22nd, actually. As I said above, he got it on the 22nd and it was mfrd. on the 10th. Incredibly fast. Where did I say otherwise?

Yes, incredibly fast -- but them's the facts. I did get the camera by UPS overnight in order to meet a deadline. (Yes, the camera manufacture date was 12/10/10, not 12/10/11. Your reading skills, Doglover, seem to match my typing skills. So we're even.)

It does pay with these "prior-to-week-50" (an anecdotal date, by the way; the information seems to be secondhand, not direct from Pentax) cameras to check the sensor now and then. That's just good sense.

I guess all these returns just means I have more opportunity to purchase an open box/factory refurb at a lower price. I love buying open box items and saving a few dollars. Keep them coming back folks.
