K-5 opens up new possibilities

Having just received the K5, I'm beginning to feel that the use of this body coupled with fast prime lenses
actually opens up picture taking possibilities that either did not exist in the past or, if they did, were far more
challenging to accomplish. For example, the the ability to grab shots in low light conditions without the use of
the flash is proving to be be a lot less intrusive. This allow the capture of candid shots with subjects being far
more relaxed and natural. It's a real boon !

Add to that the ability of being able to use live view to capture images from angles which were
hitherto impractical.

Sizewise, it's a nifty little machine with logically arranged controls and is packed with more features than
one would ever need.

All in all, one big leap for the Pentaxans.

I agree!

The K-5 is the first apsc camera I've ever owned that allows me to shoot without hindrance. Granted it still requires that measures be taken to cope with real world conditions, but.... above all past models. It can cope!

Here's an example of an ISO6400 image taken in low light(incandescent) with enough overhead to produce a usable image:

And the resulting image:

With capabilities like that, I guess we could call the K-5 bi-winning!

That is amazing! Lovely shot that a year ago would not have been possible with a Pentax. Yes...new possibilities...new fun! New joy!

Yup I Love the High ISO performance of the K-5. And the extended dynamic range which allows the recovery of pics like JohnBee exampled above.

I happily shoot at ISO6400 now and I'm not even perturbed about shooting at 12800. Even ISOs higher than that have produced usable results depending upon the scene.

definitely a 3 stop improvement over my K20D

That's why I bought the K-5. Love it even though I am patiently waiting for my second replacement body hopefully stain free body.

Defiantly opening doors for APS-c as a whole. Admittedly I would assume Medium formats and FF have probably covered this ground before and further afield (Lica M9 coupled with that god like f/0.95) But I really wish I held out a little longer for the k-5 over the k-7.

This idea is similar with "Pentax K-5 made me a better photographer" from DogLover . We now can see more open world by the eye of K-5 .

I can take these scenes on the earth house in my Sydney home without tripod .

@JohnBee, it's your very nice example under incandescent with DNG format ! May I show some examples with candles and only one candle.

I got out and took some shots in the first two days after receiving the camera and
have uploaded them at this site. They are taken with three different lenses including my
twenty five year old Kiron 105 f2.8, the one lens that never lets me down.

I too am feeling the freedom of versatility. It is great to just be able to choose the shutter speed you want/need and not have to worry too much about iso!
