sending in my K-5 finally for that sensor stain issue

according to Check shutter count online - My Shutter Count.com the attached image was my 9296th shutter actuation; pretty sure this includes shutter actuations w/o a card inside--when i was testing for the stain/focus/flash issues waiting to receive my shipping label before sending in my K-5. i put my serial # in the db already; but if anyone wants to know, the serial # is 3876602.

some additional pics from last saturday 4/2 at the hike at santa anita canyon, CA

all images were taken with a tamron sp 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6. did some auto contrast/color in photshop cs4. not bad you see my pal Tuyen with his K-r. i lent him indefinitely one of my tokina at-x 28-70mm f/2.8......he's now one of us...noting that on the hike, we were the only two shooting with pentax DSLR's

haha no stain at all. i noticed the stain way back in december when i first got it. but i worked around that issue--using the healing brush in photoshop if it was too apparent to be honest, it's not that big a deal.....but if pentax was gonna fix it for free and under warranty...why not anyways i just couldn't part with the K-5 until now. i picked up a refurb'd K20D for my wife--who is just a bit busy these days, so i'll be shooting with the K20D while the K-5 is sent away.

Got ya! I did mine in February because I didn't want to be without it come bloom time around here. I used my IR K20d for the month strapped with the DA*50 f1:1.4. Actually a nice combo for some things (see Single In February linked below if interested).

I am just about to receive my K-5 in the mail. How do I go about identifying the stain and what serial numbers is the defect under? I can't wait for this camera. I am a avid wild life kind of guy and love photographing deep in the bush down here in Florida. I have some excelent ideas for the HD video mode.

If you bought a new one from a major online retailer the chances of you getting a stained sensor are extremely low. Almost nil (though it could have a bit of dust on it). Take photos of a white or off-white wall at f/16 and f/22 and look at those full-size on your computer monitor. You can research here to see what the official "stains" look like. A smudge or speck is almost certainly dust. Run the camera's built-in dust removal system, possibly a few times before you resort to using a bulb blower. Do not use canned air.

Congratulations on your purchase and have fun!

K20D was really for my wife! honest!

hahaha y'all! comparing the K20D to K-5....K-5 absolutely is wonderful--best part is the high ISO IQ + dynamic range. just can't touch that. that being said, i've spent ample time using the K20D also and it's also a very fine camera.
