Thanks to all for your responses!

Update:
I just ordered a new one from B&H via the PF link.
The price is back down to $1,378.
I added a 2 year extended warranty for 20 bucks, $1,398 total.
Should arrive by next Tuesday

You could have just sent it to CRIS. They don't ask you where you got it, they just replace it.

I never filled that out--just emailed them and told them I had a stained K5 and gave the serial number, and they told me to send it in. They replaced it no questions asked, no charge of any kind. In fact, I sent in the body only, and they sent me a whole new kit, box, manuals, charger, cables, etc.

I strongly suspect Pentax told 'em, JUST MAKE THIS PROBLEM GO AWAY NOW.

When I called Pentax about my stain problem they emailed me a return label and had me send it to C.R.I.S. and I was told that I needed to include a copy of my invoice (from Adorama).

As of yesterday C.R.I.S. received my K-5 and logged it. Now I have to see how long it takes to get a replacement.

Dude, just send it in to get fixed. I did exactly what you did except on purpose. I assumed the Warehouse Deals K-5 had stains and bought it knowing that Pentax is replacing them no questions asked. So I saved about $250 by simply waiting for CRIS to send the camera back.

that's pretty much exactly what I did, there were no questions asked by Pentax/CRIS. In fact, i'm almost certain I even included a copy of the Amazon Warehouse Deals receipt in the box with the camera when it was shipped back to CRIS...still no questions asked. The only thing I did differently, was asked Warehouse Deals for an additional discount (because they advertised it as Used-Like New) and they threw me an extra 20% refund on top of an already pretty decent deal.

The Square Trade Warranty I bought additionally was through Amazon and it was $44.99 (a little pricey, i know) and was for open box items valued up to $2000. Now that I have a brand new replacement camera, i'm not sure how that would affect the warranty if i ever needed it. i'm thinking that it should be fine, being as how i never provided square trade with a serial number? i'll cross that bridge if and when.
